A small monkey being comforted in the arms of a Zoo keeper

At Wingham Wildlife Park in Kent, keeping animals — and visitors — warm is a top priority. To do it more sustainably, the park replaced its old oil heating system with two 45kW Windhager BioWIN Excel wood pellet boilers, cutting both carbon emissions and energy costs.

Since the original installation, Wingham have further expanded the parks heating system to include 2 more 180kW kaskade systems. Installed in custom-built external plant rooms with their own pellet stores, the fully automated kaskade systems now provide reliable heat to the park’s offices, animal hospital, primate, giraffe, orangutang enclosures and even the indoor play area — which had gone unused in winter due to a lack of heating. Thanks to the eco-friendly switch, Wingham Wildlife Park can now offer warm spaces year-round, all while supporting their mission of conservation and care.

“It is without a doubt one of the best decisions we have made for the park. We would strongly recommend them to anyone that is looking to lower the costs of their energy bills whilst still having an efficient and reliable heating source.”
